There are a total of 5 data analysis and recovery settings in SpinRite: 1) Examine the Surfaces - provides a complete report on the drive's health; 2) Recover Unreadable Data - uses Gibson Research's proprietary tolerance & recovery routines to fully rewrite the entire disk, analyzing and correcting surface errors and recovering data along the way; 3) Refresh the Surfaces - completely reads and rewrites all disk data. Disk defragmenters try to make most files contiguous, and in doing so, write over free space areas. Writing back to a drive that's failing is a cardinal sin in data recovery, so obviously this is to be avoided. Hi all, I have not seen any posts relating to this problem. Basically I have an old secondary hard drive and whenever it's connected, windows startup always throws into the scandisk thing, saying that there might be bad sectors. This first happened a few years ago and scandisk once went and marked a few sectors bad, however it didn't stop it from continually going to scandisk on startup. I noticed that one mp3 file appeared to be crossing the bad area, because it was unreadable and would cause the drive to revert to a repetitive read/fail loop. I was not concerned, the fi..

Hello, I need some advice on the best method to keep a database updated in this scenario. I have a local Solomon SQL Server where we keep our inventory. I want to build an application that will be hosted at a remote hosting location which provides a SQL database. I want to build the application to allow clients to access the inventory items and make requests based on the remote SQL data. The order will be sent to our fulfillment department via email; they will fiill the request and ship. I'm not sure the method to do this while keeping the data current on the remote and the l..

Hello group, I need help/ideas trying to recover data for friends. Drive is a 120GB WD, IDE, was used unpartitioned, NTFS format with XP Pro. Some days ago drive did not boot anymore. Attaching drive as slave in another system did not work either (not accessible). They tried data recovery using R-Studio. It recovered some files (but not the data, they need). Second try recognized less files then first. They say, they saw lots of error messages, but kept no logs. They found that Professional Data recovery would cost about $3000 for the 120GB. This is not an option, because worst case..

Hello, I received a 90MB file of raw data that was recovered from a crashed NTFS file server. NTFS supposedly puts data to disk sequentially. The DB file is 84MB or so. The file I received contain the DB file I need. I used a hex editor to pin point the start and end of the DB. I believe I was able to extract the DB file completely. Now I try to start the engine and no success. My question is: Have I done all that is possible? Are there other avenues to try to unload the data? Any assistance is welcomed! Need some help with data recovery. I recently attempted to copy everything from my ntfs usb hd to an ext4 partition, partly because the usb drive was full and partly so I could reformat it as ext4; we're talking 150GB here. In the process, most of the files and subdirs got copied, but some did not, although as far as I can see everything that did not get copied is on the old, usb, drive (some subdirs are on both), with one exception. I had a folder named 'hardware' where I kept drivers, software, manuals, etc. by manufacturer for computer devices and systems, appliances..
